Meanwhile Kids Day: March 10
Austin Public Library, Creative Action and Meanwhile Brewing are teaming up for this kid-centered pop-up at 11 am. Bubbles, music circle, coloring sheets and more.
Free Day at Zilker Botanical Garden: March 12
Take advantage of Zilker Botanical Garden’s free day on Tuesday of Spring Break. It’s the perfect time of year to check it out because spring is almost here and the flowers are blooming!
Mr. Will at St. Elmo x St. Elmo: March 14
Catch kids’ performer Mr. Will for Kidsgrass at St. Elmo Brewing. 3:30-6 pm.
Rock the Shores: March 16
If you know anything about Austin in March, you know it’s SXSW month. This KUTX live music event happens every year during SXSW and is free, family-friendly and open to the public. Auditorium Shores, March 16, 3-7 pm.
Out by South East: March 12-17
Meanwhile Brewing (a local favorite because of its food trucks, shade and playscape) is hosting live music every day March 12-17 during SXSW from 3-7 pm.
Rodeo Austin: March 8-23
March is rodeo month in Austin, with Rodeo Austin running from March 8-23. See two hours of ProRodeo action every night, live music, livestock displays (including hatching baby chicks), and the carnival! Rides, games, ferris wheel, and of course, fried food.
Dino Days at Zilker Botanical Garden: through March 16
Saturdays through March 16, Zilker Botanical Garden is hosting Dino Day events in the Hartman Prehistoric Garden like making your own fossil or prehistoric planter. If you’re not there on a weekend, you can do the scavenger hunt or story walk any day between February 17 and March 16.
NASCAR at COTA: March 22-24
NASCAR fans can head to COTA March 22-24 for some loud fun!
Sherwood Forest Faire: Weekends in March
Head out 35 miles east of Austin to check out this medieval fair, which runs weekends March 2 through April 21. Lots of entertainment (jousting, music, archery, juggling), artisan market, and food and drink.
Fun Things to Do
Sharks Exhibition at Bullock Museum
Visit the Bullock Museum until March 24 to see the Sharks exhibition, including a replica of what the giant megalodon would’ve looked like.
Austin FC Games
The Austin FC season has started! Catch a game at the Q2 Stadium.
Splash Shack
March weather can be a little unpredictable, so if you want to go somewhere wet, check out Splash Shack. It’s a small indoor water park, perfect for non-swimmers because there are no pools. Just slides and splashing elements.
Thomas Dambo Troll
Pease Park’s brand new troll sculpture by Thomas Dambo will be finished on March 15! Stop by to play on the playground, relax in the treehouse, have a picnic, throw rocks in the creek and see the new art.
March is also great for hiking — there are lots of great trails in Austin, or state parks just a quick drive away.
