Texas summers get super hot! The best way to enjoy the heat is to get in the water. Luckily, the Austin area has tons of public pools, rivers, creeks and lakes, and a lot of them are totally free!
Here are more than 25 pools in Austin that are totally free all summer long, as well as some access points to creeks, rivers and lakes.

For a full list of City of Austin pools and splash pads (and whether they are closed), visit the COA website.

Free Natural Swimming in Austin, Texas
Be advised, some of these rely on rain to be swimmable! Do not swim in (or let your dogs drink from) water that is warm, stagnant, or murky. You want water to be cool, flowing, and clear.
It’s always a good idea to check if you can find bacteria levels of your destination on line before going. Many park authorities monitor bacteria regularly.

This reservoir in Pflugerville has a sand beach, playground, and kayak rentals so you can enjoy a day at the lake!
Bull Creek District Park
6701 Lakewood Dr, Austin, TX 78731
If the creek is flowing, this is such a fun area to explore, splash and swim. There are shallow areas, deeper areas and waterfalls. If you park in the big parking lot with the restrooms, the creek in this area even has a natural water slide!
Bastrop County Nature Park
375 East Riverside Drive, Bastrop TX 78602
You can find free access to the Colorado River at Bastrop County Nature Park, in the southern part of Tahitian Village in Bastrop. Swimming is allowed and there’s a small beach area.

This is such a gem in the middle of Georgetown! You can access this section of the San Gabriel River at W. Second Street and Rock Street behind El Monumento restaurant. There’s a great shallow pool by the waterfall or deeper water on the top side of the waterfall. Just make sure the water is flowing!
