Austin may not have a major league baseball team, but it does have the Round Rock Express, a minor league team affiliated with the Texas Rangers! And I think minor league games are even more fun for kids than major league games. The tickets are cheaper, the games aren’t quite as loud, the crowds are smaller and there’s even a playground and kids’ area at the stadium.
If you’re considering going to a Round Rock Express game soon, here’s what you need to know about the experience.

Where Do the Round Rock Express Play?
You can catch a home game at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, the suburb just north of Austin, at 3400 E. Palm Valley Blvd. It’s across the street from Kalahari, down the road from Old Settlers Park, and right by two restaurants with playgrounds: Salt Lick and Hat Creek!
Game day parking is $15 per car (no cash).
You can purchase seats or you can buy general admission for the stadium’s lawn seating, which is located on the outfield side of the stadium.
Kid-Friendly Stadium
Dell Diamond is great for kids. First of all, there’s a playground inside the stadium! Go to the outfield side of the stadium where the lawn seats are to find Tom Foolery’s Fun Zone. There’s a train playground, a rock wall, and often inflatable bounce houses or games.
The lawn seats are great for kids, because they can move around more than if they were stuck in a seat (and they’re cheaper!). It can get pretty hot and sunny, but luckily, there are lots of shaded spots and picnic tables in the stadium where you can go take a break.
Ballpark food is always a hit with kids, but in particular, there’s ice cream, shaved ice and specialty mac and cheese at Dell Diamond that kids will love.
Kids Day on Sundays
Every Sunday home game is Kids Day at Dell Diamond. Get to the stadium early to enjoy bounce houses and a mini train ride just outside the stadium entrance! After the game, head to the field — kids can run the bases every Sunday.
Check the team’s schedule to see if there are any special themes and activities each Sunday, like Princess Day or Superhero Day.
Round Rock Express Kids Club
Kids 12 and under can join the Round Rock Express Kids Club for free each season. They’ll get free lawn tickets to 3 set Sunday games, discounts on other Sunday game tickets, and get to be front of the line to run the bases.
What Can I Bring?
Dell Diamond has a clear bag policy, so break out your clear bag or small purse (5″x 9″ or smaller). You can also bring one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags and diaper bags if you’re bringing a baby.
Can you bring outside food and drink? Not much, but a little. You’re allowed to bring in one factory-sealed, plastic water bottle per person, as well as one single-serving packaged snack per person. We brought 2 granola bars and 2 bags of Goldfish.
If you’re sitting in the lawn section (which is near the fun kids area), you can bring a blanket or towel to sit on, but lawn chairs are not allowed.
Strollers are allowed. They have to be able to fold up and be put under your seat, or stored in a designated area.
