While Austin may not be a hub for major league sports — we don’t have major league ANYTHING except soccer — there are tons of opportunities to watch sports in Austin! There are minor league teams in many sports, plus the University of Texas offers so many chances for sports fans to catch high-performing college athletes in all kinds of sports.
(And some would argue that minor league and college games have a much more fun atmosphere! That and the lower price make them perfect for families!)

If you want to figure what kind of Austin sports events you can attend, here’s your guide to all the different sports teams in Austin. Some of these are professional teams you can watch, and some are local teams you can watch or join!

Austin FC
Q2 Stadium, 10414 Mc Kalla Pl, Austin, TX 78758
Austin FC is the city’s only major league sports team, playing in the MLS Western Conference. They play in Q2 Stadium in North Austin.

Austin FC games are so much fun! The team is fairly new (started playing in the 2021 season), so everyone has the chance to be a fan and get in on the traditions even if you’re new to the fandom.
Ticket options include standing seats in the supporters section all the way up to club level seats. There are lots of local food options at the stadium, including OneTaco, Easy Tiger, and Bao’d Up.
Parking passes can be purchased ahead of time, or you can take the train to the McKalla station and walk!
The regular season runs February to October. Find the Austin FC schedule here.
Round Rock Express
Dell Diamond, 3400 E Palm Valley Blvd, Round Rock, TX 78665
Just north of Austin in Round Rock, you can find super fun minor league baseball games! The Round Rock Express are the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, and they often host themed days, giveaways, and every Sunday home game is Kids Day.

I have a whole blog post about going to Round Rock Express games, if you need more details! It’s great for families.
The regular season runs late March to September. Find the schedule here.
Austin Spurs
H-E-B Center, 2100 Ave of the Stars, Cedar Park, TX 78613
If you’re a San Antonio Spurs fan living in Austin, you can get a taste of your team through this NBA G League affiliate playing in Cedar Park. And even if you’re not a San Antonio fan, you’ll love cheering on the local basketball team. You can normally score decent inexpensive seats to these basketball games!

The Austin Spurs have a fun bull mascot that kids will love, and they host lots of kid-focused theme days throughout the season.
If you have a Pogo Pass, you can use it for admission to two games a year (specific dates only). Use code AUSTINWITHKIDS for half off your pass.
The regular season runs from November to April. Find the Austin Spurs schedule here.
Texas Stars
H-E-B Center, 2100 Ave of the Stars, Cedar Park, TX 78613
The Texas Stars hockey team is the American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars. They’ve got the same green, black, silver and white as their NHL counterpart. The games are played at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park (the same place where the Austin Spurs play!).

My kids love Ringo the mascot, a Texas ringtail, and there’s a Ringo’s kids club that your children can join each season.
Pro tip: if your kids don’t love loud noises, bring some headphones because the music and buzzers are pretty loud!
If you have a Pogo Pass, you can use it for admission to two games a year (specific dates only). Use code AUSTINWITHKIDS for half off your pass.
The regular season runs from October to April. Find the Texas Stars Schedule here.
UT Sports
University of Texas is a huge sports machine in Austin and there are tons of events to attend, whether you went to UT or not!
Of course, the big team is the University of Texas football team! Going to a UT football home game is a full day of fun, with free concerts with huge names at Longhorn City Limits and free fun at Bevo Blvd.

Check out the schedules for UT Baseball, UT Basketball (Men’s and Women’s), UT Softball, UT Women’s Soccer, UT Tennis (Men’s and Women’s), UT Golf (Men’s and Women’s), UT Swimming and Diving (Men’s and Women’s) and more!
Austin Gamblers
Can you think of anything more quintessentially Texan than bull riding? The Austin Gamblers are a professional bull riding team — one of 10 teams in the PBR Camping World Team Series. Catch them when they are in town for Gambler Days in August.
Rugby Teams
If you’re a rugby veteran or just want to try it out, Austin has options for both men and women! Join a team or go out and watch.
Roller Derby
Roller derby is such a fun sport to watch or to play! It’s got speed, rough play and fun names. There are flat track and banked track leagues for all genders.
LOVB Austin Volleyball
The LOVB league supports volleyball players from club to pro level. Austin has a pro team (LOVB Austin), which plays against the other five LOVB teams in the U.S.
The season runs from January to April. Find the LOVB schedule here.

NFL Franchise Rumors
Austin does NOT have an NFL team. It seems like every year or two, a news story pops up about rumors of an Austin football team. Sometimes it’s in Austin, and sometimes it’s shared between Austin and San Antonio. So far, there is no real movement on that idea.
No games happening in town this weekend? Here are good kid-friendly spots where you can watch sports on TV.
