Participate in Black History Month
February is Black History Month!
Kick off the month at Solar Saturday, the Black History Month Kick-Off Block Party at the Carver Museum. February 1 from 2-6 pm. Enjoy music, dance, exhibits, vendors and arts and crafts for free!
Black History Month Kid’s Day at the Carver Museum: Feb. 22. Come back to the Carver Museum for a fun-filled day educating kids about the history of Black culture. The Black History Month theme for 2025 is African Americans and Labor. You can expect storytelling, arts and crafts, and interactive exhibits.
Take a walk and learn about influential black figures on the Black History Month StoryWalk in Lakeway. For the whole month of February, you can find displays honoring 28 individuals who made significant contributions to society at the trails by Lakeway City Hall.
Valentine’s Day in Austin
All the heart eyes for Valentine’s Day this month! Here are some fun events to do with kids.
Montopolis Rec Center Daddy Daughter Dance
Get tickets for the Daddy Daughter Dance on February 7 at Montopolis Rec Center, for kids ages 5-18. Take part in a dad-daughter dance competition, games, crafts, a photo booth and refreshments. Tickets are $5 for residents and $10 for non-residents.
Dittmar Rec Center Valentine’s Dance
This free Valentine’s Dance is happening February 7 at Dittmar Rec Center for kids ages 5-12. Show off your dance moves, enjoy snacks, and win prizes.
Magical Masterpieces: Cupid’s Palette
Kids ages 5-10 can make Valentine’s themed crafts at the Pflugerville Rec Center on Feb. 8, 10:30 am to noon. All supplies are included; parents can drop off or stay. $20/participant
Letterpress Play Valentine’s Day Printing Celebration
You can try your hand at letterpress printing a Valentine’s Day card at Letterpress Play on South Congress! On Feb. 8 from 1-4 pm, you can choose a heart-shaped card on handmade paper, and the team will help you letterpress print a design. There will be free hot cocoa and sweets.
Valentine’s Hearts and Crafts at Dottie Jordan Rec Center
Kick off your Valentine’s Day with free crafts and activities the night before. Dottie Jordan Rec Center is hosting Hearts and Crafts on Feb. 13 from 5-7 pm. There will be cookie decorating and a photo booth!
Watch the Super Bowl
February means it’s time for the Super Bowl! If you want to watch (or you just want to hang out and eat while other people watch), there are fun watch parties happening around town.
Puppy Bowl Live at Yard Bar/Camp Out: Feb. 8
If football’s not your thing (or your team didn’t make it), you may prefer cute pups instead! The fun starts with vendors, adoptable dogs, a Kids Zone and more at Austin Humane Society (11 am – 2 pm) and then Puppy Bowl LIVE will take place at Yard Bar from 2-5 pm. Come watch or even enter your dog in the competition!
Super Bowl (and Puppy Bowl) Watch Party at Meanwhile
Meanwhile Brewing will be showing the Puppy Bowl on the big screen and small screens starting at 1 pm and then switching to the Big Game at 5:30 pm, so everyone will enjoy the entertainment all afternoon.
