Austin is such a family-friendly city, full of great places where adults can meet up and hang out while kids enjoy themselves too. This also applies to our coffee shops! There are so many coffee shops in the greater Austin area that have great outdoor spaces or play areas.
And you know what’s great about coffee shops? They open early! Parents of young kids know that by the time most restaurants open at 11, you’ve already lived multiple lives. Coffee shops open early so you can get out and get caffeinated while the kids play!
Here are my favorite family-friendly coffee shops in Austin and its suburbs, perfect for a play date, taking the kids out alone, or if you’re visiting Austin on a family trip.

Central Austin Coffee Shops
1. Littlefield’s Tacos and Coffee
2401 Winsted Ln, Austin, TX 78703
This outdoor space is so charming — turf hills, vines, lanterns and picnic tables — with a Goldy’s trailer where you can get coffee and breakfast (and Cookie Rich cookies) and a Veracruz Tacos trailer. There’s a chalkboard and wooden blocks, and kids love the turf hill and tunnel.
If you’re lucky, you may find a parking spot in the small parking lot (some of the spots are for Littlefield’s and some are for residents. Otherwise, it’s street parking in the neighborhood.
Pro tip: there is a bathroom — it’s across the parking lot in the corner. Go down the path and behind the building to find it.
2. Mozart’s Coffee Roasters
3825 Lake Austin Blvd, Austin, TX 78703
The lakeside view of Mozart’s makes it fun for both kids and adults. This coffee shop has a huge patio with upper and lower decks so you can choose your view. It even has a paddleboard rental and launch spot.
Mozart’s hosts all kinds of family-friendly events like live music, dances, movie nights on the lake, and a big light show at the holidays.
There’s a parking lot right by Mozart’s, but if it’s full, you can park across the street — you’ll see a sign for Oyster Landing parking.
3. Double Trouble
103 N Loop Blvd E, Austin, TX 78751
Head to this North Loop coffee shop for good coffee, a big patio, and a secluded play area perfect for letting kids have fun without bothering other patrons. The turf play area is set back in a corner with lots of bright, wild paintings, a tire tunnel, hills and animals to sit on.
North Austin Coffee Shops
4. Brentwood Social House
1601 W Koenig Ln, Austin, TX 78756
One of my favorite spots in north-central Austin! Brentwood Social House is a coffee shop inside a renovated house, and it has a play room inside with a pretend kitchen, puzzles and books, as well as a pirate ship playscape outside in the yard.
5. Malone Specialty Coffee
14735 Bratton Ln #210, Austin, TX 78728
If you’re up near Wells Branch, stop into this neighborhood coffee shop that has a little play area inside for kids. It has a chalkboard wall, play kitchen and some toys, as well as some bigger games like an arcade game, Connect 4, and foosball.
6. 309 Coffee
309 S Main St, Georgetown, TX 78626
North of Austin up 35, you can find 309 Coffee in Georgetown. It has outdoor space in the front and back yards, and my kids enjoyed playing on the jungle gym and little play house out back.
South Austin Coffee Shops
7. Dear Austin
2310 S Lamar Blvd #102, Austin, TX 78704
Write your love letter to Austin at this cute South Lamar coffee shop. There’s a wall with magnets to hang up your note, and a backyard with a sand box, play kitchen and rocket ship with magnetic chalkboard walls. It’s also next to (and affiliated with) the cat cafe, Purrfecto Cat Lounge.
8. The Hive
10542 Menchaca Rd, Austin, TX 78748
Your kids will go crazy for the two-story playhouse at The Hive! There’s a huge fenced-in backyard with tables and some toys for smaller kids, and the playscape has slides and a play kitchen.
9. Progress Coffee and Beer
I love the space at Progress in Buda! It has an awesome big patio (all fenced-in) with a playscape in the back. With coffee, beer and food trucks, Progress is a great all-day spot.
East Austin Coffee Shops
10. Sour Duck Market
1814 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Austin, TX 78702
Hang out in the patio of this cool East Austin spot. There’s a bakery, cafe and bar here, so you can spend all day hanging out. For kids, there’s a little converted trailer with chalkboard walls where they can play.
11. Cenizo
7701 Colton-Bluff Springs Rd, Austin, TX 78744
The Tree House Park is a little food truck park in East Austin. Cenizo is the coffee truck there. Grab a coffee and let the kids play in and under the treehouse. There’s seating around, a piano under the tree, a big treehouse and lots of toys and games around.
Fair warning, as far as I know, the only bathroom option is portapotties there!
12. Batch Craft Beer and Kolaches
3220 Manor Rd, Austin, TX 78723
Batch has delicious kolaches, coffee and a giant backyard space. It feels nice and relaxed here, and kids can play on the turf hills and big mushrooms while adults catch up.
West Austin Coffee Shops
13. Winston’s
4900 Bee Creek Rd Suite 205, Spicewood, TX 78669
This Lakeway spot has the cutest playground! It’s all fenced in with some shaded picnic tables. Winston’s has coffee, breakfast and pizza.
14. FairLane Cocktails and Coffee
29035 Ranch Rd 12, Dripping Springs, TX 78620
Dripping Springs has such cool spots! FairLane Cocktails and Coffee has a full bar, food trucks and of course coffee. There’s a huge fenced-in outdoor area with lots of tables, a big playscape and plenty of space to run around.
There are so many places to eat and drink with playscapes and play areas — read my list of more than 40 here! (And here are pizza places with playgrounds!)
