Read for Prizes: Fun Summer Reading Programs Around Austin

Summer is the perfect time to get some reading in — both for kids and adults! Local libraries have summer reading programs to keep you motivated, get you reading, and let you earn prizes.

Here are the reading challenges you can find at local Austin-area libraries and book stores! And who says you have to stop at just one?

Austin Public Library

June 6 – August 8, 2026

Read 20 minutes a day or for a total of 600 minutes and complete 3 activity badges to earn a prize. Kids get a free book and adults get a mug! (If you’re a grownup who wants a mug, try to finish on the earlier side of summer while they’re still in stock!)

Round Rock Public Library

June 1 – July 30, 2026

There are programs for every age, so everyone can motivate themselves to keep reading all summer. Earn one point per minute spent reading, and then use those points to enter raffles and “buy” books or small prizes.

Cedar Park Public Library

May 26 – August 8, 2026

Log your reading (anything counts!) to earn badges, small rewards, and tickets to be entered into raffles.

Note: You do need a full-access library card to participate. Not a Limited Access or Texshare card.

Get your reading log online starting May 30.

Lake Travis Community Library

June 1 – July 24, 2026

Kids can get a reading log, and when it’s finished, they can get a prize from the treasure box. Teens and adults get a punch card, and when they’ve read five books, they can get a free item from the bookstore.

Pflugerville Public Library

Starting in June

There will be both an adult summer reading challenge and an all-ages team challenge for kids, teens and adults available this summer.

Dripping Springs Community Library

Keep track of your summer reading and earn badges and raffle tickets! Plus, your books count toward the community goal of reading 50,000 books!

Barnes and Noble

Kids grades 1-6 can earn a free book if they read 8 books and fill out a reading journal.

Texas State Library

June 15 – August 15

Submit book reviews (up to five) to be entered into a raffle to win a board game.
